Number-two ranked Mendis not selected in Sri Lanka T20 squad

Sri Lanka have omitted Ajantha Mendis, who is currently the second-ranked bowler in the ICC Twenty20 rankings for bowlers, for the upcoming series against Pakistan.
Sri Lanka's selection panel, headed by Ashantha de Mel, named their ODI and Twenty20 squads earlier today for the series against Pakistan next month.

Although Mendis (739 points) is ranked above Lasith Malinga (645) in the Twenty20 rankings, he has been overlooked by the selectors for the Twenty20 squad.
According to the ICC, players who "miss a match for their country lose two-percent of their ranking points", which will see Mendis slide down the rankings at the end of the two-match series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Interestingly, Mendis has not fared too badly against Pakistan in ODIs. He has 10 wickets at an average of 22.80 in his six matches against a side that handles spin well. However, Mendis has not been selected in the ODI squad either.
Pakistan kick off their tour of Sri Lanka with two Twenty20 matches in Hambantota on June 1 and 3.
