Foreign Stars at the SLPL

By S.R. Pathiravithana
A bevy of foreign stars including some of the biggest names in T-20 cricket, may be in action at the Sri Lanka Premier League in August this year.
The Arnold Schwarzenegger in cricket --- former West Indian captain Chris Gayle will be the main attraction while his Australian counterpart David Warner is also billed to be on show.
Besides the above, the legendary Australian leg spinner Shane Warne, who was not a part of this year’s IPL, is likely to be in action at the Lankan T-20 carnival.
Ironically, there are still no Indian names on the board as the Board of Control for Cricket in India is still studying Sri Lanka’s request about the releasing of its players.

The first edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) T20 tournament will be played from August 10 to 31. The matches will take place at the Premadasa stadium and at Pallekele.

SLC was forced to postpone the event after the BCCI refused to allow its cricketers to participate in the SLPL as it suspected a link between the sponsors and Lalit Modi, the former IPL commissioner. The SLPL will precede the ICC T20 World Cup being hosted here between September 18 and October 7.
